Haydn St. Cecilia Mass

Introducing Eugene Concert Orchestra
Beall Concert Hall, U of O
“Although I would imagine you have never heard this extraordinary work, the language is familiar. It caught my attention years ago because of its intriguing hybrid style — Classical mixed with Baroque.”
-Diane Retallack, Artistic Director
Bask in the ethereal sound of Eugene Vocal Arts joined by accomplished professional soloists and orchestra as we open our season with a gorgeous choral masterwork, the Haydn St. Cecilia Mass. This rarely heard significant choral masterwork in honor of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music, reveals a youthful Franz Joseph Haydn, with the sunny classical exuberance that was the seed of his mature style. The classical elegance is interwoven with intricate fugues reminiscent of the monumental era of the great master, Bach.
In this first concert of the season we are thrilled to introduce our newest ensemble – Eugene Concert Orchestra! featuring Concertmaster, Searmi Park, who is also Concertmaster of Eugene Symphony and founder of Marshanne Chamber Players.
